Education is our future
We know that giving is more than donating, it is about making a difference! With this mindset Safari embarked on a journey in 2020 taking hands with Education is our Future (NPO 160407) who is involved in the upliftment of literacy in rural schools.
Their mission is to encourage and improve education primarily in township and rural areas, with the goal of developing future leaders for the country. All learners should have a chance at learning.
Bud Mbelle Primary: Atteridgeville
The Education is Our Future programme was extended to Bud Mbelle Primary School in Atteridgeville in 2022. The school faces significant challenges, with some classes accommodating up to 70 learners in limited space. In partnership with Education is Our Future, Safari Investments established a library for the school in June 2022.
Since Safari’s involvement, regular award ceremonies have been hosted, inviting mainstream scholars alongside learners on the support programme. These events provide recognition and motivation, and it has been inspiring to see learners who previously struggled with reading now thriving and ready to transition to mainstream classes.
In 2025, Inscape College, with support from Safari Investments, visited Bud Mbelle Primary and committed to adopting the school for future student-led projects. Local artist Bodwa Khuzwayo assisted Safari in beautifying the school’s entrance wall, with most of the paint generously sponsored by Ryobi. Additionally, books donated by the SPCA in Heidelberg were added to the school library, further enhancing the learning environment
LADIES IN BUSINESS NETWORK (LBN)
Safari generously provided space to the Ladies in Business Network (LBN) at Nkomo Village and Mnandi, establishing key hubs for business meetings, workshops, entrepreneurial markets and expos. The vibrant flea markets at Atlyn Mall in recent years have also been hosted by LBN, showcasing the work of predominantly female entrepreneurs from Atteridgeville and surrounding areas. Signature events such as the “She is Boss Expo” and annual Christmas markets have each featured more than 100 stalls.
Through this partnership, LBN has grown from a grassroots initiative into a professional, national network. Paid membership increased from 50 to 140, social media followers surpassed 58 000, and mall activations expanded across three locations. Today, LBN supports members across the country and is preparing to launch regional chapters to extend its impact even further. Members affirm that this partnership has significantly transformed their businesses and their lives.
CAYA PERFORMANCE AT THE VERY FIRST PADI AFRIKA DESIGN DAY
We partnered with The Idea Collective and the HM Pitje Foundation to initiate a special performance by Creative Arts for the Youth in Atteridgeville (CAYA) at the very first Afrika Design Day hosted by PADI (Pan African Design Institute). CAYA is an Atteridgeville string orchestra funded by 2 retired teachers. Here they had the opportunity to meet people from the USA, Canada, Jordan, Lithuania, Lebanon, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and other countries. CAYA also got exposure to an audience that will be able to create more future opportunities for them.
Via our partnership with Pheli FM we arranged an interview on the local Radio station with a listeners base of approximately 76,000. They shared their experience with the Pheli listeners.
The creative members of CAYA also entertained guests at the launch of the Ark@1349 at Nkomo Village, showcasing their talent to the MEC and other invited guests.
Since then, we have assisted CAYA in gaining exposure beyond Atteridgeville. They performed at the opening of SAITEX at Gallagher Estate, at the launch of the very first Township Licensing Department in Atteridgeville and were also invited to perform at an HM Pitje Foundation event in Sandton.
HALALETSANG SAFETY HOME
This shelter is home to 48 abandoned and abused children between the ages of 5 and 18. Previously, they lived in the clubhouse of unused sports facilities, where Jacaranda FM sponsored beds and blankets. In 2020, Safari partnered with Halaletsang Safety Home by donating clothes and other necessities throughout the year.
During the festive season of 2021, Safari’s three shopping centres in Atteridgeville—Nkomo Village, Atlyn, and Mnandi, hosted a movie night for the children of Halaletsang. In 2022, the shelter moved to new premises that offered better accommodation and separate rooms for different age groups, though much work was still needed to make the space safe and welcoming.
In 2023, HD Construction assisted Safari with the installation of ceilings in the bedrooms. Later that year, Safari invited volunteers to help paint and clean the shelter, with strong support from the community. The Tjhoko Paint team painted the rooms, while local children and Atteridgeville artists helped to beautify the courtyard. Ryobi sponsored additional paint, Roots from Nkomo and Royal Butchery from Atlyn generously provided food, and Ponelopelo Community Development NPO served lunch along with ice cream and popcorn. Pheli FM added entertainment and encouraged wider community support.
Safari, in partnership with Royal Butchery at Atlyn Shopping Centre, continues to support Halaletsang with food during the festive seasons. Several contractors associated with Safari and the IID have also contributed by supplying baths, showers, and wash basins. During the redevelopment of Atlyn Shopping Centre, 30 lights and fittings were donated and installed at Halaletsang, helping to create a safer environment at night.
On Mandela Day 2025, ABSA’s Fraud Division, in collaboration with Atlyn Shopping Centre, supported Halaletsang with garden and facility clean-ups, while also donating food, blankets, and other essentials. Atlyn Mall donated a large oven for the shelter’s kitchen.

PHELI FM
Safari partnered with local based community radio station Pheli FM from Atteridgeville The station broadcasts rent free directly from Atlyn Mall.
Ponelopelo Community Development NPC
Safari Investments formed a partnership with Ponelopelo Community NPC. This is a local Atteridgeville organisation that supports families in Atteridgeville and surrounding areas. The organisation not only feeds more than 400 children weekly on their way to school but also organizes regular upliftment workshops, motivational talks at different schools and regular soccer days to keep the youth off the streets, especially during holidays.
Safari Investments sponsored 2 branded gazebos and banners that can be used during these community outreach programmes. We also grant them exhibition space at the LBN markets where they can sell second hand clothes to raise funds to support the breakfast run for children.
During the Easter Scratch & Win competitions at Nkomo Village, shoppers are encouraged to donate non perishable items ( sanitary pads, hygiene products, tin food, school uniforms and old clothes), in exchange for a scratch card where they could win a prize.
Safari also donates exhibition space at Mnandi where Ponelopelo can assist scholars who need support with extra classes. They also make books available for shoppers and scholars to read.
On Mandela Day 2023 Safari donated bread knives, a polony cutter and two graters to Ponelopelo to assist them with preparing the food for scholars every morning. Safari also sponsored the bread and spreads for Mandela Day. Representatives from Safari and Pheli FM together with the exhibitors from Mnandi and ladies from LBN assisted on Mandela Day to feed 400 scholars at 6am on their way to school. Safari staff members donated Milo and sandwich bags.
RUNAWAY SHOES
Siyahlala Athletics Club is a development-focused athletics organisation based in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, dedicated to nurturing local talent and producing exceptional athletes who excel in Athletics Gauteng North competitions.
The club is committed to creating opportunities for athletes, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing a pathway for both athletic and personal growth.
The club currently supports 60 talented young athletes from previously disadvantaged communities. In July 2025, the club approached Safari Investments for a donation.
Although we do not typically offer donations, we visited the club and reached out to a local shoe supplier, Runaway Sports to request assistance with running and spiked shoes for the sprinters.
They generously donated previously owned shoes as well as brand-new demo shoes to the value of more than R100 000.
These shoes were donated to the club on the 23rd of September 2025.
